Benissa: Medieval gem with Mediterranean charm

Between Calpe in the south and Moraira in the northeast lies the charming town of Benissa. The place inspires above all with its very well preserved medieval architecture.

During a stroll through the city, you will discover unique buildings and elegant palaces, something like the Lonja (the trading exchange), the cultural centre and the Franciscan monastery. In the centre of the city there is also the monument of Riberero, dedicated to the inhabitants who had emigrated to the Ribera Valenciana for the rice harvest. Benissa is an attractive city where the sea and mountains complement each other to create a breathtaking landscape.

It has four kilometers of coastline with some of the most beautiful bays of the Costa Blanca. The crystal clear water is the perfect place for water sports such as diving, sailing, windsurfing and kayaking. But also hiking friends get their money’s worth. If you want to experience a typical fiesta, you’re in the right place. The village then holds its local festivals in honour of the patron saint Purisima Xiqueta, while in June the Moors and Christians are celebrated.

Benissa is about five kilometres from the sea, but the nearest beaches are about 11 kilometres away. Ideal, who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of the coastal cities, but still is looking for a chic villa or an exclusive apartment near the sea. Because the view of the Mediterranean is breathtaking.

Leisure activities

Magnificent hiking routes lead around Benissa and reveal wonderful panoramas on the Mediterranean Sea. But also the amusement parks and many sports facilities are easy to reach. Concerts and exhibitions await culture lovers.
